The Palatinate and the Vosges are the next climbing areas from Karlsruhe with hundreds of small rocks and secret climbing spots. We have been a lot of times in these areas, but there are still a lot of rocks I haven’t seen so far. One of them was the „Krappenfels“ next to Lutzelbourg – a beautiful small French village located in the Vosges.
The rock is made out of thousands of small pepple stones. Normally I don’t like these pepples because they are hard to climb and often break off. Nevertheless, the climbing in Lutzelbourg was very nice, and the pepples were pretty solid. There are a lot of routes in all grades and all styles – from easy routes up to super hard routes. It’s definitely worth a visit.
In my onsight, I found it tricky to understand these route and got super pumped. You have more than enough holds, but sometimes it is hard to see the right pepples that you need. I was able to climb „Le rêveur casqué“ (7c) and found some new projects. Sadly we had not that much time on this day I am excited to come back and try the other routes there …
